Re: Agreed, 220 for olympic weight (97 kg), or 235 would be nice, plus 11 wts

I totally agree about the need for 220 or 235 - with my preference for closer to 220. Frankly, the weight classes are skewed so low – other than the outlier for one heavyweight – because these are traditional weight classes established multiple decades ago when athletes were smaller. Today’s athletes are so much larger in terms of muscular development than a comparable athlete 40-60 years ago, yet that hasn’t translated to a re-thinking of the weight classes. (Take a look at a picture of legendary Red Sox slugger Ted Williams shirtless and compare him to today’s homerun hitters: he looks like their lean long-distance running little brother.)

Today, we have a wide range of freakishly athlete, strong and trim guys in the 200-230 lbs. weight range. They can wrestle 220 in high school, but their options in college are to cut a ridiculous (and potentially dangerous) amount to wrestle at 197 or else step out on the mat against someone who could weigh as much as 60-80 lbs. more than them – and that person could also be freakishly trim and built, but just enormous. How much would it really cost the college programs to add this one weight class? And could you imagine how intense those 220 matches could be?
