The mathups will generally be set by the NWCA Coaches Poll ...
I would expect VT to be 5th in the poll this week. My guesses are:
1. PSU
2. Iowa
3. Okla St
4. NC St
5. VT
6. Missouri
7. Michigan
8. OSU
9. Lehigh
10. Nebraska
The PAC-12 declined their invitation due to some scheduling issues so there will be 2 at large selections. VT and OU will be the at-larges most likely.
The National Duals committee has some lee way with their matchups due to teams that have already played this year (VT vs PSU was never a possibility), getting regional matchups and travel issues.
After the Okie St - PSU and NCS - Iowa matchups are set (my guess at this point), three Big 10 teams (UM, OSU, and Neb) will wrestle against the next 3 highest non-Big 10 schools which I believe will be VT, Missouri, and Lehigh. We'll see how they match them up.I think VT-UM is a likely scenario but it could be OSU or Neb as well for the Hokies.
I'm going to also state the devils advocate stance for why NCS ends up ahead of VT. Here it is:
NCS went 3-1 vs Top 10 and VT went 1-1. (ADV NC State)
VT lost to #16 ISU (I know injuries) but a loss is still a loss (ADV NC State)
VT beat NCS (ADV VT).
VT was the ACC champ, not NCS (ADV VT)
In the end, I believe the polls are going to reflect NCS' strong record against high end teams (Okla St and Missouri).
