Interview with BYU AD


My take is that BYU's best and perhaps only shot at joining a P-5 conference is if the Big 12 gave BYU a football-only slot. Whatever you think of BYU or the Mormon church, the school is firm in its position that it won't play on Sundays, which you have to understand and respect if you're on the conference side. And I don't think any P-5 conference is now or will ever be willing to deal with that limitation.

As for a football-only membership in the Big 12, that does not solve the distance problem. Provo is roughly the same distance from Norman, Oklahoma as is Morgantown. BYU would be as isolated from the heart of the Big 12 as WVU already is. But all distances are long once you get past the Midwest.
