If push comes to shove


then the service academies will do what DoD and Congress say. They realize that they will always have a different "mission" than the other DI schools. If DoD and Congress say the best way to fulfill their "mission" is to continue competing at the highest collegiate level for the visibility factor, then they will do it even though they may not like it at times.
