Perhaps we should be more focused on the number of wins, and then after that the number of games played. Both Stanford and Oklahoma had 11 wins, but Stanford played 13 games while Oklahoma only played in 12. Why does Stanford get penalized for playing more games?

In situations like this where you are trying to decide between conference champions, first criteria should be # of wins, and then if those are equal, did either team play in a conference championship game. The team that did should get the nod IMO.
