Is Keely OK
All of this is opinion and food for thought - I hope Keely has a fantastic post season.
My perception over the last month was that Keely's performance had fallen off. I was concerned when she threw 159 pitches against FSU on April 8 that it might affect her pitching for the rest of the year. She threw 148 pitches on April 16.
I divided Keely's season up to and including the 159 pitch effort on April 8.
Here is some data:
THRU APRIL 8 AFTER APRIL 8
INNINGS: 112.2 58.1
RUNS: 25 30
EARNED RUNS: 21 24
HITS: 54 51
2B: 7 9
HR: 6 10
K: 197 86
W: 30 17
After the game on April 8, Keely had an ERA of 1.18. Since then her ERA is close to 3.00 (that's shocking - she is so much better than that) and her ERA is now 1.78. She pitched 112.2 innings thru April 8 and 58.1 innings after - almost exactly twice as many innings before April 8 than after April 8. Home Runs went from 6 to 10 - over 3.5 times as many home runs. Doubles went from 7 to 9 - over twice as many per inning after April 8. Earned runs and runs are similar - the rate was well over twice as many per inning after April 8. Surprisingly strikeouts and walks occurred at the same rate over the entire season.
I am afraid something is wrong - I hope it can get fixed soon. This is already a special season and Keely is a huge part of doing some more remarkable things.
