The latest on my quest to build a unique AirBnB property
I've been focusing on Front Royal due to its proximity to Skyline Drive - lots of tourist traffic at that entrance. Luray gets even more.
My latest realtor recommended I consider Shenandoah County, specifically the area around Fort Valley. It's between two mountain ridges and the views are very nice. But the main thing about it is favorable zoning ordinances. The zoning allows you to put an accessory dwelling unit on almost any lot.
But...we've found that many local HOAs and neighborhoods get around that by denying any short term vacation rental use in areas where the county otherwise permits it. And limiting construction to one dwelling per lot. Every single lot we've looked at has these restrictions.
So there's no real benefit in building in Shenandoah County over, say, Warren or Park Counties. It's been one frustration after another.
