Funny story from a friend of mine who used to work at Advance Auto


At one point after AA was acquired by their new owners in Minneapolis, the inevitable outsourcing/offshoring started. The help desk that the stores could call for tech support was dissolved and outsourced to India.

After awhile, the company in India realized they didn't have the bandwidth to handle the call volume, so they had to subcontract the overflow...to a company in Wisconsin.

Funny part 2...several of the stores figured out a trick. When you call the help line, you get the normal "For English, press 1, para Español, presione 2." If you press 1, you end up in India speaking with someone who has English as their 2nd (at best) language. But if you press 2, you go to Roanoke, VA to speak with someone who has Spanish as their 2nd language. So just "accidentally" press 2 and tell them you don't speak Spanish.
