I would probably have YouTube videos walk me through the process.

The most involved engine related repair I've tackled was replacing the intake manifold gasket on my E-30 M3. Thankfully there were a few guys who had these cars as their "project" cars, so I bought the parts they recommended, such as the E28 or E34 M5 intake manifold gaskets, plenum support from McMaster Carr, new intake plenum rubber connectors from BMW suppliers, etc. I think the job took about 6 hours, but every piece I removed went to my deep sink for a thorough cleaning. The engine looked immaculate when I was finished.
