Auctions are an interesting study of human behavior

Since I retired, I sometimes help my lifetime friend out who owns Mountain City Auction.

On live auctions in particular, some people just hate to lose and will sometimes bid and bid and bid on an item that they could buy new for much less. I once witnessed two ladies get mad at each other over a box of what I would consider "junk" and run it to over $100 just to keep the other one from getting it. It was absolutely crazy.

At least in this case, the money is going to the softball team, so there's justification for bidding more. (See what I did there...lol)
