Having just gone through it with my son, I understand his position

Especially if your on an unofficial visit, the last thing you want is to be hounded while you're there to simply look around and get a feel of the place. Once a bunch of folks know what you're there for, it changes the whole vibe.

I didn't need a bunch of fans/parents/students asking me a bunch of questions and attempting to recruit me. I just wanted to watch the practice and/or game so I could help my son in the process. I also didn't want to interfere with his weekend in anyway.

Taking visits, especially unofficial ones is costly and time consuming. If the family is there, that is significant and nothing more needs to be read in to it ... in my humble opinion
