That said, there is a reason why some bikes cost more. The quality of the components definitely impacts performance and durability. Again, my recommendation is to talk with a trusted bike shop. I’ve had good experiences with Trek (and Giant also). You also want a shop that is good with service. Also, make sure you have a good understanding of how to keep the bike in good operating condition (cleaning, lube and minor adjustments). As I said, we do a lot of mountain biking. My son has 8 consecutive weeks of xc racing coming up and is on a mountain bike team that practices 3 days a week in addition to racing. And then there is simply fun riding. Here is an exemplar ride (great fun)….
