I would expect more/better from Charlotte, but that's not entirely fair...


First Charlotte has some quality guys. VT's own Jacob Labovitz played for Greenville in that game (Jacob was 1st team All-ACC last year), and most of their other players are former D1 guys or are internationals. While technically some of their guys might have been "local former high school stars," that's hardly a fair characterization of their team. Most were former D1 college starters/stars.

Second, Charlotte didn't play their regular 1st team. The lineup looked like a collection of mostly backup players.

Finally, look at some of the other results. There are several other MLS sides that would have been happy with an ugly win against a USL team.
