Smart Home Company Insteon Shuts Down Servers Without Warning

The entire company seems to have disappeared, leaving users with broken smart home setups.

Despite Insteon's status page claiming "All Services Online," the company's own forums are down. It has not posted to its Twitter or Facebook accounts since last year. The company's final blog post—which looks to have been published near the start of the pandemic (and is ironically titled "We're Keeping the Lights On")—promises lasting support for its smart home systems.

Neither Insteon nor parent company Smartlabs immediately responded to PCMag's request for comment. A number of executives at Insteon and Smartlabs have scrubbed the home automation firm from their LinkedIn accounts, according to IoT reporter Stacey Higginbotham.
