Wowzaaa,amazing adventures and tough SOBs! My first FIL was an officer on

the USS Houston and after Pearl Harbor as the Japanese were island hopping into the Pacific we had little with which to respond. A group of Dutch, New Zealand and US ships were sent to interfere.. the Houston was sunk in the Java Sea …. Some sailors survived but became POWs early in the war. Herb survived the war, married his Navy Nurse. Divers later found the ship and salvaged items including a couple items of his displayed now in a museum in Houston. My son checked them out while at Rice U.
