It is technically a renewable resource


As opposed to a finite one we extract from the ground. So in theory using ethanol would reduce our dependency on buying oil from people who hate us.

But we have the capacity and technology to be oil/gas independent anyway if we wanted to. So burning our food just doesn't seem like a great idea.
