Judgement call on the umps part


At the rec level, more than anything, the runner should follow what the base coach signals. In most cases, the base coach knows where the ball is, it it’s been fielded cleanly, and if the second baseman and/or shortstop are covering second base. Rex level, turn right and see/hear the first base coach. That said, in travel/hs ball, some top players have that same knowledge/awareness and know when to go and when to stay
