My dear Lady Hokies,....
Please know that the vast majority of TSL readers and diehard Virginia Tech sports fans greatly admire each and every one of you and your dedication to your academics, our university and your chosen sport, nearly to the unmatchable degree of Hokie Chip and his bride, the definition of VT fans.
Call us the silent majority that loves and is proud of you for all that you are and hope to be. We support you in not only in good times, but also in bad.
That said, the term fan is an acronym for fanatic, and some of us tend to get a bit overly enthused about winning to the point of being judgmental about anything that goes awry that contributes to a loss.
Perfection in competition as in human beings is virtually impossible to attain, so the only thing that counts is the body of work; the VT softball team for which each of you is a part is truly superb.
As for yesterday’s minor blip in your incredible season that has VT and the world of college softball aglow, this VT fan who has either competed and/or been a vested observer in sports events for nearly seven decades has never witnessed anything to match yesterday’s spectacle at FSU.
Admittedly, the right and wrong of the umpire’s issue with Emma is beyond this fan’s technical knowledge to judge, only that he decided the outcome. Hopefully, this ‘rule’ that he applied against Emma and our team will be applied with the same vigor against every pitcher as we witnessed yesterday.
This fan has already accepted the outcome and put it in past tense, as you will undoubtedly do.
God bless you and keep up the outstanding work in everything you do in life, including that as a competitor for VT softball,
Hokie CD
