My son is graduating in May but staying another year for grad school

He plays water polo and swims. It was always a hard balance as there is overlap, and honestly playing polo into November hurt his swim season. His Jr year he had to choose between polo and swimming and chose swimming at that had a better chance of having a meaningful season, and it was a good choice though he had a freak scapular nerve injury before his conference champs. He decided to just swim during his extra covid year because there are two records he wants (200 fly, 200IM), and he's already won three D2 polo titles. This extra year next year will allow him to get his MS in Mechanical Engineering and achieve his swimming goals. His school has a 4+1 program where they take grad schools the last Semester of undergrad and finish the MS in a year.

Most of the polo players are taking the covid year. Some of the swimmers are, and it depends on the major. All of the nursing majors are moving on and graduating, which makes sense. The finance majors are getting MBAs. He was actually the only swimmer in his class to make it all four years, so his coach is rewarding him by extending his scholarship another year, for which we are very thankful.
