Anyone who was enrolled in college during the 2020-2021season got an extra year. This extra year was granted whether your sport's season was cut short/cancelled or not. Moreover, it was granted to everyone, whether you were a freshman or in grad school.

What this means is that this isn't just a one-year issue, but rather a 4+ year issue. Getting a roster spot - particularly at the D1 level, is incredibly difficult. Many student athletes are taking advantage of the extra year and staying in school, getting graduate degrees, etc.
