When I’ve seen it, it’s usually abnormally warm area, tends to be more red,

Often starts when pax is sleeping at night and wakes up in morning with pain. Gout caused by uric acid crystals- the body dehydrates during sleep exacerbating the crystal growth, causing pain and inflammation.

If that doesn’t sound at all like your condition, and it is something that comes and goes more frequently, it could be something similar to a plantar fasciitis, depending on where it is, or a joint / tendon injury that doesn’t get stretched out adequately.

Kind of a pain, but see a podiatrist if you can. I got turf toe in the army, exacerbated by workouts in the old field house at VT when we used practice on the astroturf in there.

Hope that helps.
