The 4 of them, Jerry, Ann, Bernie, Bernie's wife Leni used to drive together from gig to gig, and baby Ben, with nanny, was with them too. According to Bernie, Jerry and Ann would often get into arguments about little things - directions to where they were going, where they were going to stay that night, etc. The arguments apparently got very heated and suddenly Jerry who was driving would pull over to the side of the road and say "Hey, that needs to go into the act." They would sit there while Jerry and Ann wrote a comedy script using their latest argument as reference material.

Another good Stiller and Meara story from Bernie. The same group was driving around Detroit and decided to go over the international bridge to visit Canada. Turns out the nanny was illegal so could not get back into the USA with them. So Bernie's wife Leni had to babysit Ben the rest of the trip. They don't know what ever happened to the nanny.

Side note about Bernie and Leni. Bernie is a composer who lives in NYC and he wrote the soundtrack for the MacNeil-Lehrer Report. He also composed a lot of Saturday morning cartoon theme songs including Rug Rats and did work on the Lord of the Rings movies. Leni was an MGM kid and did movies with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. She was also a munchkin in the Wizard of Oz. Leni is no longer with us but Bernie is still going strong.

As you can imagine being around Bernie and Leni was a treat. They were such interesting people and would regale us for hours with stories surrounding their careers.
