Understand I have zero knowledge here. But the timing of entering the portal was within a day of the deadline to enter and be eligible to transfer schools and not sit out. I feel that is key fact. At that point remaining at VT was still an option for him. But his demon seems to be alcohol. Reported he was struggling to keep from driving after drinking and had failed multiple times the test where he had to breath into an attached instrument to the car to determine IF he had alcohol on his breath. To remain in Virginia and drive this was going to be a hoop to jump through for some time and I think this played into his frustration.

So I think many involved came to the conclusion this issue wasn't going away and it might be better for Boots to move on. Remember just because he had entered the transfer portal didn't mean VT couldn't bring him back. So that was still an option. But if he waited past that July 1, believe deadline, the option of transferring and not having to sit out was no longer in play.

I feel for Radford and his alcohol challenges. I am disappointed for VT and our fans as he was always one of the most popular players. He just made a decision he felt was best for him.
