When I said a participation fee, I meant for each thing, not an all event pass. The issue I had with a pass is that it then becomes controlled by the booster club and in most schools that means FB and BB will get most of the benefit. In Iowa, wrestling too.

My son was in band, baseball, track, and Xcountry. XCountry team was top 3 in the state, with 5 state titles in the previous 10 years and in those 10 years was never provided new jerseys or warmups, baseball had to rely on a couple parents whos kids sucked but wanted to play to buy the equipment they needed so their kids could be on the team, largest band in the state, did OK because the band boosters were pretty agressive fundraisers, track could rarely get funds to go to away meets more than 70 miles away, which is a real issue in Iowa.

Football team had 2 different home and 2 different away jerseys and they were replaced every year, new helmets yearly (I can live with that, safety thing) and everything they wanted..to go along with their normal 4-5 record each year, despite being the 2nd largest HS in the district with every advantage possible.
