You make some very good points, however

Duke is a brand because they win...a lot. I don't think they can do that without a legendary coach at the helm. See UCLA after Wooden, UVA after Welsh, K-state after Snyder, ND after Holtz, VT after Beamer, Penn State after Paterno, etc. Some dynasties were able to carry on (e.g. Alabama football, Kentucky BB) but they are the exceptions rather than the rule. I expect Duke BB won't be one of the exceptions.
