Clancy had significant access to CIA

My wife met Clancy and Barbara Bush at the CIA and was on the CBS evening news giving them a tour of the CIA childcare center with Judge Webster. Always wondered what book he was researching on that tour, don't remember one that had a scene involving a child care center, but I stopped reading his stuff at some point.

Reagan viewed his work as good propaganda for the cold war. There are a couple things that were likely classified at the time that are in his books.

The stealth fighters that are used early in RSR are the stealth fighters that didn't become public knowledge until several years later. He described them differently (oval shaped if I remember), but the mission and capabilities he described were accurate and classified.

The Red October was a soviet Missile Sub (Oscar Class I believe), the propulsion system in the book was likely fiction, but it was otherwise fairly accurate. We also couldn't sink it with any lightweight torpedoes at the time because of the double titanium hull and the ASW community was a bit nervous about it.

Always wondered about Cardinal of the Kremlin. Interesting take on the assassination attempt on the Pope, always wondered, given his access at CIA, how much of that was true. Again, made good propaganda to tie the attempt back to the Soviets, even better if there is some truth to it.

I'm sure there were more, but those are the ones that stand out.
