FWIW, Nebraska already had 5th place locked before the finals.
They were ahead of us by 7 going in, and the most you can get from a single finalist is 6 (4 extra placement points plus 2 for a fall). Northwestern was down by 6 and could have tied Nebraska for 5th if Deakin had gotten a fall in his win at 157.
If Bryce had managed to beat Lovett in the semi-finals, we would have only been down 1 going into the finals, since winning the semifinals is worth 3 (2 placement points plus one advancement point). So you'd add 3 to our total and subtract 3 from Nebraska's. That would have pushed us to 7th ahead of Cornell even with losses in the 149 and 174 finals.
