Towards the end, Lewis took a couple of new engines for the end of the...

...season. Believe the first received a 10 grid place penalty, then the second received a 5 place penalty, which was half as many spots as the first. Mercedes then pulled the second new engine out to save it for the last race or two, and put the first new engine back into their car. That way they wouldn't have to take a grid place penalty at the end of the season since they had already taken the grid place penalties, and could swap back in the freshest engine to finish. It was within the rules, but completely against the spirit of the rules.

One would think that a team that had nailed the rules with the last car change, and rode that massive advantage for ~7 years wouldn't act so "slimy."
