Usually when that happens, they complain that US F&C's suck

I found a real British pub not far from me in CO that had legit UK food (even had a sign saying that, which made me laugh every time I drove by). But when we had a UK employee here and we ate there, he agreed it was genuine Brit food - including the fish and chips.
