Rhododendrons might like it there too


Azaleas are the same genus as the true rhododendrons and they like more or less the same conditions. Compared to azaleas the rhododendrons prefer well drained soils with a lot of loam- so best situation would be a hill with very low clay. You could probably trade a hill with clay or flat with loam or sandy soil but a flat with clay soil is not ideal. Only reason I bring that up is rhododendrons are way more expensive than equally sized azaleas so your investment will be higher.
