Except my point was me musing that maybe one of our cold war strategies


to reassure the public was to console people with the thought that they are more likely to be a direct target than to die slowly from fallout and radiation poisoning. So the idea of Waverly dying due to fallout is exactly the opposite of my point.

Given a choice between dying in a blink, dying over several excruciating days from radiation sickness, or wandering a dystopian wasteland before dying of hunger, I think most would choose dying in a blink.

If you look hard enough, almost any location in the US is home to some manufacturer, natural resource, intellectual property, or some other asset that could be of military interest in a pinch.

Is it possible that a 1980's USSR missile strike really would have only targeted major economic, political, or military hubs, but even those of us in smaller towns were told we were targets just to save us the horror of the alternative?
