It would be malpractice not to lock them out. The alternative is let them


work without a CBA when the MLBPA could call a strike at the point it would inflict the most pain, like what the players did in 1994.

Football is the healthiest professional sport in the US because of parity. There is no little to no parity in baseball. The Astros had to tank to get a core of good players under team control so they could make a run for a few years. The Rays are probably the best at running a small market team year in and year out. But for every Tampa, there’s a Pittsburgh that has sucked for time immemorial.

When only a third to a quarter of the teams can be legitimate contenders year in and year out, it gets boring. Ratings suffer. It’s the same problem NCAA football has with the SEC playing in the national championship every year and 90 D1 football teams having no legitimate shot of ever making the playoffs.

If the owners really wanted to play hardball, they could propose a salary cap.
