IIRC, the ACC at one point assigned byes randomly.


So the #1 seed had a chance at wrestling the #5 or #6 seed for bonus instead of always getting a bye. I looked it up and found it worked that way in 2010 where #1 seed Jesse Dong and #2 seed Chris Diaz had first round matches. Other Hokie #1 and #2 seeds got byes.
