Since I never served in the military, I don't know what method(s) countries use to confirm a sniper kill. Also, I don't know if it is the same methodology that is used today or if it has evolved over the years. Even if König doesn't exist, it doesn't necessarily mean other events were made up too or that the Russians didn't used the practiced referenced in my OP because they were short on the supply of weapons. At the very least it is a fascinating time given that records management wasn't always the greatest (assuming that records weren't destroyed) back then.
