Well, of course they're going to use a narrative that supports


what they've done.

As for it not being consistent, I think that's just what happens when there are umpteen criteria that could be used for making decisions involving umpteen teams. Different criteria tip the scales in different scenarios.

If it were simple and could be explained systematically and consistently, you wouldn't use a committee to do it...you'd have a BCS-like formula (which people would also bitch about)
