Yeah, we played some "name" teams, but you have to frame it to that time.


Not many of those name teams were what they are now. In those holiday tournaments, we tended to do okay but had a light draw. There was never a win of the magnitude of beating Michigan State or Villanova, like we had recently, for example.

If I'm not mistaken, that NC State game was their first loss after the national championship. We ended whatever win streak they had that spanned two seasons. Looked good on paper, and historically I guess, until you realize that almost of their contributors had graduated and we returned almost everybody.

The real key to look at how we were relative to everybody else is our seeding in the NCAA tournaments when we did make it.

It was definitely good times, but the current times are much better in my opinion, and much better overall basketball, in terms of the level of competition in our level of play.
