Kind of yes, kind of no. You can avoid some of the problems

A lot of their negative reviews are from people surprised by this fee or that fee. Know that they have a ton of gotchas and plan to avoid the fees (e.g. pay for your carry on in advance vs at the gate) or avoid the airline (do the math and realize their total price isn't actually cheaper for you).

Also, in my brief experience, when something goes wrong with Spirit, the delay tends to be longer since they run as lean as possible.

Also, their seats suck.
