I was looking at some past efficiency ratings for a post to elaborate on the expected outcomes post I made earlier this season but decided against it to not have to deal with some usual trolls who arent going to understand the data no matter how its presented

Regardless, the gist of it was looking historically at teams with similar efficiency rankings, those teams had wildly better W-L records than what VT has experienced. So essentially this team could perform at the exact same level it is performing, but in previous seasons a 14-10 season becomes a 18-6 season to date.

And the numbers bare out to the practicality of it too....

VT lost to Xavier, UVA and Miami at the buzzer. They let BC and NCSU slip away, losing by 5. They played very well against Memphis defensively, but the open looks didnt fall.

If the buzzer beaters go differently for VT, they only would need to win one of BC, NCSU, and Memphis to be 18-6. If they win none of those, they are still 17-7 with at least 5 winnable games left.

Is this team all that different had those outcomes been different? No, of course not.
