Gattis felt like he was going to get the head coach position here with the expectation that Harbaugh was going to nfl. The AD here was set on a full search which included Gattis. Gattis was not happy his promotion to HC wouldn’t essentially be automatic.

Harbaugh returned, Gattis’ brief dream of being HC here was dashed and Warde Manuel messed up by not immediately ponying up another 500K in salary and AHC title. Gattis got miffed and acted like a child on way out.
