An add to #2: how much worse is Maddux def than who he would replace?

the team as a whole is pretty good defensively, but not sure i see many defensive juggernauts out there. and if his offense is helpful, lets score more points and take this dip in defense. but if it's a huge drop.. like he would replace someone who's just shutting down defenders and he's an empty lawn chair then i mean ok... but is that the gap?
