I've considered joining a pool, but didn't seem worth it with what I have

For instance NiceHash estimates that my RX580 8GB would make about $1/day on their network. There you sell your computing power, so you don't care if the mining is successful.

In theory, a pool that pays out a proportion of earnings can make more money, but will be more volatile and possibly more BS to deal with; one estimate I saw was a 15% gain.
