My comments were based on defense.
Watch Storm and pedulla play defense.
Storm recovers well off screens. Rarely does he need help. And he baits people into passing off to the wing because they think their guy is wide open there. By the time the ball gets to the wing he’s on the guy.
Sean has on several occasions each game gotten caught up in screens or just collapsed into the lane on drives leaving his guy wide open on the wing. Usually it results in open threes or a wide open path to the basket for dribble drives. This happened repeatedly last night when Sean was in and especially during the N.C. state run in the second half.
As far as offense the game last night was a big illustration of the difference between the guards (also in the Duke game). Murphy is much better right now at moving the ball especially into the lane. Mutts and aluma get much better position in the lane when getting the pass. Pedulla definitely has the vision and at times has made great passes. But he’s hesitant at times making agggressive passes. It may lead to fewer turnovers but also less assists.
Since Murphy seems to be out of his slump he’s a step up on the scoring side too. He creates shot space better with his dribble and quickness. Pedulla only shoots when he gets passed the ball in a wide open position. At this point he is not creating those shots.
I don’t want to get too down on Sean. He’s very young and is showing great strides. He’s going to be a great one.
But his issue is consistent with the rest of the bench. It’s a major step back from the starting 5 with little offense and a defense that doesn’t scare anyone.
Last year we had Hunter and Boots off the bench. We don’t have a six or seventh guy who is an offensive threat at all. And they don’t offer any rebounding or d help either.
