as 2018 and claiming that the present situation validates that call is not necessarily true. In 2016, VT went to the conference championship game and 2017 was solid. Even 2018 was not totally unexplainable even though concerns were gathering.

The fact is had they fired him then, VT gets the rep as a program with no patience and likely a much harder time attracting another quality replacement. Also, that is even before evaluating the VT financial status at the time. There is also the very real possibility that some of the people stroking the checks for the current change would not have been on board with the quick hook. While you're patting yourself on the back for your clairvoyance you might be wise to consider the likelihood that the only real difference now might be VT would have had two coaches in the last six years and be moving to no. 3. The previous is not intended to address the unique circumstances of 2019 or 2020 where it might have made more sense to cut ties.
