Per NCAA rules/policy, 2020 didn’t count as a year of eligibility

Take burmeister. He’s officially an rJr. He was a freshman at Oregon in 2017, played in 2018. 2019 he sat out as a transfer. Then he played for Tech in 2020 and 2021. He’s five years out of high school, but still has one year because 2020 didn’t count against eligibility.

Coaches everywhere are having to work through backlogs of players because kids want to use that fifth or sixth year of eligibility. Particularly because teams have third and fourth year players that haven’t seen the field because upperclassmen are using that free season
