I think VT is at a disadvantage...

For starters, there just aren't that many opportunities to "benefit from your likeness and image" in the NRV area, at least not terribly lucrative ones.

Secondly the VT alumni base is fairly disinterested in VT football. Don't get me wrong, the die hard alums and fans are amazing, but it's a very small sample size as it relates to the overall alumni base (look at Clemson engagement for example. And their engagement was huge before their recent run). What that means is that any of the potential NIL deals throughout the state (NOVA, 757, Richmond areas) likely aren't being put out there just yet.

Lastly, we are an engineering/AG school (that does a lot of other things well BTW). How many of those types of folks are multi-millionaire, "business owners" who are looking to "purchase" recruits? I'm not sure, so it's a genuine question. But let's be honest, that is what's going on across the country.
