I visited all those places this past year

Northern NM was fascinating - Pecos NM, Bandelier NM, Rio Grande del Norte NM, and Manhattan Project NHM in Los Alamos are all well worth the time. I would love to go back and spend more time in Taos and Santa Fe.

The middle of NM I could do without - maybe it's because we drove through at the end of a 9-day trip and were ready to be home, but I didn't see much to recommend the area.

Southern NM and the places already discussed were really cool, and if you can swing a detour to Chiricahua NM in southern AZ I'd highly recommend it. Big Bend was spectacular and warrants much more than the 24 hours we gave it. Santa Elena Canyon and camping along the Rio Grande (Big Bend State Park) were my favorites, but I'd like to do more hiking in the Chisos Basin area too.
