I see a lot of OC’s who think they need to outsmart the defense. In reality, they should just let the talent on the field do the work. Don’t be tricky or try to fool the other team with a pass when you need 1 yard. If you have a good O-Line and a good RB, run the damn ball. Conversely, if your qB doesn’t perform well in the pocket, design and call plays to allow him to roll out and throw to his receivers or tight ends.

But too many OC’s feel the need to “earn” their paycheck.

It also helps to have an OC that has an actual philosophy. A plan.
