Don't step back..if he went to combat with the marines, he's samey same
I always felt sorry for the corpsmen who joined the Navy and ended up with the grunts. But in the bush, the corpsmen went through everything we did and we loved them to death! They would rescue wounded marines as quick as any marine. I don't remember a one that wasn't proud as hell of what they did with us. If that's what your friend did, of course he's going to claim it and I hope he does!
My most memorable Marine Corps birthday: 1968. Flew from the USS Tripoli to an LPD, whose name I forget, on Nov 9th. Fell in on the well deck, loaded for bear, about 04:30. Flooded the well deck and started the AAV-7's about 05:00. As they packed us ass hole to belly button in the AAV's, the smell of diesel fuel was heavy, there was a big sign saying "Happy 192nd Birthday USMC", and a sleepy sailor was handing out slices of white cake with white icing. So we ended up packed like sardines in the AAv's with hands full of sticky white stuff and nothing to do with it but try to eat it or wipe in on the marine in front of us. About half way to the beach, someone opened a top hatch to get some air, and a wave splashed in... salt water and sticky white stuff.. Happy Birthday Marines!
At least the shit didn't hit the fan until that night.. when we were dead tired and still sticky
