They have the same reason as most every team: injuries


Players missing games or playing below par. They lost all those players to the NFL after 2016 and 2017, first the offense and then the defense. Bringing in a new DC with the loss of early draftees means a rebuild.

VT has a weak coaching tree from the previous era. I think the hire of an outsider who brings his staff is not sustainable since his staff will eventually jump to other jobs as will the head coach. I think he should've been allowed to leave when he tried to jump ship in 2017.
