Personally, I like CJF, and I don’t think his hire was a mistake, I just think he hasn’t really been a fit at VT for a variety of reasons. That said, even if he wins out and goes 7-5, here’s why he’s gone after this season.

1) He was already on the hot seat. There was already a press conference after last year. He certainly hasn’t done enough to gain the trust and get off the hotseat, especially considering…

2) The ACC is really, really down this year (especially Coastal). There is no reason that this team doesn’t go 10-2, so 7-5 (at best) is still a disappointment when VT had a huge opportunity to win the Coastal or even ACC (for Fuente’s first time ever).

3) The last four years (6-7, 8-5, 5-6, 5-5)…are not trending in the right direction, especially from a 6th year coach, it’s beginning to look like 2018 is more typical Fuente than 2016.

4) Even discounting COVID, 2019 is his best season in the past four years and that season started out as a train wreck (including a humiliating loss to Duke) & ended with a disappointing loss to UVA (a terrible sendoff for Bud).

5) Recruiting…

6) All of our sacred cows from the Beamer Era have been gored:
a. Gone is our bowl streak
b. Gone is our winning season streak
c. Gone is our streak against UVA

7) We are no longer relevant in college football…not all our games are on national TV (GT v VT), this week, we weren’t even mentioned on Gameday, and I don’t even remember the last time we hosted Gameday.
